MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Basic Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older (Junior members accepted at age 14 with parental consent)
• Must be in sound physical condition (verified by a physician)
• Must successfully pass an interview with the Membership Committee
• Must complete required background checks (PA State Police & Child Abuse for 18+)

Training Commitment

• Attend weekly training (Monday nights)
• Attend monthly business meetings (3rd Monday)
• Complete Firefighter I certification (~175 hours) within first year
• Participate in ongoing training to maintain skills and readiness

Response Expectations

• Respond to emergency calls from home or work
• Participate in fire suppression, rescue, EMS, and hazmat incidents
• Support department activities including training, fundraising, and maintenance

Skills & Abilities

• Work effectively as part of a team in high-stress situations
• Communicate clearly and follow verbal and written instructions
• Maintain physical fitness required for emergency operations
• Learn local geography, apparatus, and firefighting techniques
• Operate equipment and assist in maintenance of apparatus and facilities

Physical & Work Environment

• Perform strenuous physical activity under emergency conditions
• Work in environments with:
  • Heat, smoke, and limited visibility
  • Hazardous materials and toxic conditions
  • Emotional stress and high-risk situations

Additional Expectations

• Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor
• Participate in community service and public education
• Assist with reports, logs, and department documentation
